On the morning of March 30th, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) jointly organized a seminar and exhibition titled "Developing High-Level ICT Human Resources: Connecting Higher Education Institutions and Businesses ". The seminar took place at the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, Km 10, Nguyen Trai Street, Ha Dong District, Hanoi.
Representing the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Construction were Dr. Tran Khanh Dung , Deputy Head of the Faculty of Information Technology and Head of the Software Technology Department; MSc. Bui Thanh Phong, Head of the System Engineering & Computer Networks Department ; and 30 students from the K60 cohort, who are the top-performing students preparing for their internships and graduation projects.
The seminar serves as a platform for sharing information, discussing, and proposing solutions and policies for developing and improving the quality of high-level information and communication technology (ICT) human resources to meet the socio-economic development requirements of the country. It is also a forum to connect stakeholders: policy-making agencies, training institutions supplying human resources; ICT businesses, associations, ICT human resource organizations and enterprises, and students.
According to calculations, the growth rate of IT businesses and the demand for jobs are enormous; in 2020, 100,000 IT graduates were needed, and more importantly, quality was crucial. A survey showed that out of 50,000 IT graduates, only 30% were able to find immediate employment in their field, while 70% required retraining.
Currently, the IT department at the University of Construction enrolls 150 students annually in the Information Technology major . After graduation, these students will participate in building and deploying software systems at businesses in various fields such as banking, finance, telecommunications, etc. Many alumni hold important positions at large corporations such as FPT, Samsung, and Viettel.
Speaking at the seminar, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha emphasized: "Based on reality, market conditions, supply and demand, and benefits, schools should design lifelong learning programs, change training methods to reduce academic content, and increase opportunities for students to participate in internships, including 'immersive' internships in information technology companies, similar to medical schools with hospitals. This is a revolution in the innovation of thinking and university governance, governance by objectives."
Students are deeply involved in practical learning, forming innovation centers and startup ecosystems. IT graduates not only find jobs but also start businesses that create jobs. Many innovative ideas emerge from IT quickly, and training methods are also fast-paced. Training, innovation, and entrepreneurship are part of a chain, working together in a spirit of mutual benefit, support, and responsibility for the younger generation.
Alongside the seminar, an exhibition of the same name, featuring 15 universities and 10 major ICT companies such as Viettel, VNPT, FPT, CMC, and Samsung, took place throughout the day on March 30, 2019. This was an opportunity for businesses to promote and introduce their technologies, products, potential, recruitment needs, job opportunities, internships, and specific requirements for graduates in ICT fields to universities and students.
Currently, the faculty offers admissions and training in two main information technology majors: Software Engineering and Systems Engineering and Computer Networks . In the 2019 admissions year, the faculty will be admitting students to a new Computer Science major. This will provide students with more opportunities for learning and research that align with future development trends and workforce needs.
