History of the subject: 

• Date of establishment: January 10, 2005 according to Decision No. /2005/QD-TCCB of the President of the University of Construction

• Predecessor: The Department of Applied Mathematics was separated from the Department of Mathematics. In 2001, the Faculty of Information Technology was established, the Department of Mathematics took on some additional applied subjects to teach students in the faculty.

•  In early 2005, the School decided to separate the Department of Mathematics into two departments: Department of Mathematics and Department of Applied Mathematics. The Department of Applied Mathematics is responsible for teaching Probability and Statistics and Technical Probability for all students of the school and teaching applied mathematics for students of the Faculty of Information Technology: Discrete Mathematics, Optimization and Graph Theory, Computational Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, Computational Models, Modern Algebra (Applied). In addition, the department also teaches some mathematics for new majors (Logistics and Urban Logistics).

• The teaching staff of the department are all trained in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Education, Hanoi University of Natural Sciences, with good expertise, passion for the profession, close and enthusiastic with students. The teachers in the department equip students with a good foundation in mathematics, skills in applying mathematical models to solve problems in many fields: Information Technology, Computer Science, ...

• In recent years, with the strong development of Information Technology, the Faculty of Information Technology of the University of Construction has also been growing strongly in both quantity and quality. Therefore, the lecturers of the Applied Mathematics Department have been continuously improving their professional knowledge, updating their lectures to meet the new knowledge serving teaching and scientific research. The Department has built its own software for teaching and evaluating students' learning outcomes. Teachers in the Department participate in guiding students' scientific research, participating in guiding graduation projects for students majoring in Computer Science.

7. Computational Mathematics (taught to students of the Faculty of Information Technology);

8. Applied statistics and probability (before the 2009-2010 school year, taught to students of the Faculty of Information Technology);

9. Integral Transforms and Partial Differential Equations (taught to IT Faculty students before the 2009-2010 school year);

10. Technical Cybernetics (taught to students of the Faculty of Information Technology);

11. Math subjects for high-quality students (taught by teachers Mai Van Duoc, Bui Quoc Thang, Doan Tam Hoe).
