History of the discipline:

• Date of establishment: January 10, 2005, according to Decision No. /2005/QD-TCCB of the Rector of the University of Civil Engineering.

• Predecessor: The Department of Applied Mathematics was separated from the Department of Mathematics. In 2001, the Faculty of Information Technology was established, and the Department of Mathematics took on additional applied-oriented courses for students in the faculty.

• In early 2005, the University decided to split the Department of Mathematics into two departments: the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Applied Mathematics. The Department of Applied Mathematics is responsible for teaching Probability and Statistics and Engineering Probability and Statistics to all students and for teaching applied mathematics to students in the Faculty of Information Technology: Discrete Mathematics, Optimization Theory and Graphs, Computational Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, Computational Models, and Applied Modern Algebra. In addition, the department also teaches some mathematics courses for new majors (Logistics and Urban Logistics).

• The department's teaching staff are all trained in Mathematics and Applied Mathematical Informatics at Hanoi University of Education and Hanoi University of Science, possessing excellent expertise, dedication to their profession, and a warm and enthusiastic approach to students. The faculty members equip students with a strong mathematical foundation and the skills to apply mathematical models to solve problems in various fields: Information Technology, Computer Science, etc.

• In recent years, with the rapid development of Information Technology, the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Civil Engineering has also been developing strongly in both quantity and quality. Therefore, the lecturers in the Applied Mathematics department have been continuously improving their professional knowledge and updating their lectures to meet the demands of new knowledge for teaching and scientific research. The department has developed its own software for teaching and evaluating student learning outcomes. Lecturers in the department participate in guiding students in scientific research and supervising graduation projects for students in the Computer Science major.

2. Calculation methods (taught to all students in the university before the 2009-2010 academic year, except for the Faculty of Architecture);

3. General Logic (taught to students of the Faculty of Information Technology before the academic year; in 2009-2010, also taught to students of the Faculties of Environment and Construction Economics);

4. Discrete Mathematics (taught to students of the Faculty of Information Technology);

5. Optimization theory and graphs (taught to students of the Faculty of Information Technology);

6. Automata and Formal Languages (taught to students of the Faculty of Information Technology);

7. Computational Mathematics (taught to students of the Faculty of Information Technology);

8. Applied Probability and Statistics (taught to students of the Faculty of Information Technology before the 2009-2010 academic year);

9. Integral Transformations and Partial Differential Equations (taught to IT Faculty students before the 2009-2010 academic year);

10. Fundamentals of Engineering Cybernetics (taught to students of the Faculty of Information Technology);

11. Mathematics courses for high-quality students (taught by Professors Mai Van Duoc, Bui Quoc Thang, and Doan Tam Hoe).
