General introduction:
Formerly the Computer Science Practice Room (established in 2001), the Computer Engineering Department was established on January 10, 2008 (according to Decision No. 38/QD-TCCB) with the aim of developing in-depth expertise in computer hardware and computer system software for students of the Faculty of Information Technology. Immediately after its establishment, this goal was initially implemented for both majors: Information Technology and Construction Informatics, through developing and maintaining teaching activities, scientific research, and guiding students in scientific research or participating in professional competitions on Information Security, Network Security, and Microsoft Office World Champion. In addition, the department continues to manage the facilities, ensuring the technical maintenance of hardware, system software, application software, local area networks, and multimedia teaching networks for 5 computer labs with over 300 computers. The university organizes practical training, learning, and examinations on computers for students in all types of training programs: regular, postgraduate, high-quality, and part-time.

As of July 2021, there were 8 staff members working in the department and faculty office, including 1 Senior Lecturer who was pursuing a PhD, 1 newly recruited lecturer who was already a PhD holder, and 3 retired staff members. After a period of transferring staff serving in the computer lab to the Information Technology & Database Center, currently (March 2025), the staff working in the department consists of 6 lecturers (of which 1 lecturer holds a 30% dual role) and 5 retired staff members.
From 2001 to the present, the Computer Practice Room and the Department have consistently been recognized by the University as Outstanding and Advanced Labor Collectives . In particular, recognizing the Department's contributions to teaching and the management and development of the Computer Practice Room, in the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 academic years, the Department was recognized as an Outstanding Labor Collective at the Ministry level by the Ministry of Education and Training. Two faculty members received commendations from the Minister of Education and Training.
Some of the department's work has contributed to the development of the University and the Faculty:
I participated in managing and developing the Credit Management System software, ensuring the technical aspects of hardware, software, and computer networks for the training system of the Training Department and all faculties training full-time and part-time students in the university. The system operates effectively and meets many training requirements in the university.
From 2004 to 2016, I participated in the design, technical support, and development of the university's computer network system and was in charge of the Information Resource Management Board. In addition, the Department had faculty members involved in the University's admissions work for many years. I developed an efficient software system for processing admission scores, ensuring accurate results.
Every year, the Department and the Information Technology Department participate in the recruitment process, including all stages such as exam question preparation, answer key development , ensuring the technical operation of computers and networks in the computer labs, and exam grading, all with good results.
In addition to ensuring the smooth operation of computer labs for training purposes, the Department and the Computer Science and Technology Laboratory successfully implemented and deployed computer maintenance techniques for the National Mechanics Olympiad (2013) at the Computer Science and Technology Laboratory, the National Competition on Understanding the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union organized by the Central Committee of the Youth Union at the My Dinh National Convention Center (2017), and many other competitions of the University.
In line with the overall development trend of the Faculty of Information Technology, the Department has contributed its expertise to the development and teaching of the newly established Computer Science program. In particular, the department's faculty members played a core role in proposing the opening of a new training specialization in Multimedia Technology, with two classes enrolling in 2024, both with high admission scores compared to the rest of the university.
Regarding teaching, over the years, the Department has been responsible for many specialized and general courses. The Department has potential for professional development in research areas such as hardware development , computer system control , embedded systems, as well as in-depth development in digital signal processing , communication, and multimedia technology.
