Department of Computer Engineering

General introduction:

     Formerly the Department of Computer Science Practice (established in 2001), the Department of Computer Engineering was established on January 10, 2008 (according to Decision No. 38/QD-TCCB) with the orientation of developing specialized expertise in computer hardware and computer system software for students of the Faculty of Information Technology. Immediately after its establishment, this goal was initially implemented for both majors: Information Technology and Construction Informatics through the development and maintenance of teaching activities, scientific research and guiding students in scientific research or participating in professional exams on Information Security, Network Security and Microsoft Office World Champion. In addition, the department continues to manage facilities, ensure hardware engineering, system software, application software, local area networks, multimedia teaching networks of computer rooms with over 300 computers; Organize practice, study, and test on computers for students in all types of training of the School: full-time, postgraduate, high quality, and part-time.

     As of July 2021, there are 08 staff working at the department and the faculty office, including 01 senior lecturer who is a PhD student, 01 newly recruited teacher who is a PhD student, 03 retired staff. After a period of transferring staff serving the computer room to the IT & Database Center, currently (March 2025), the staff working at the Department has 06 teachers (of which 1 teacher is a part-time teacher, accounting for 30%) and 05 retired staff.

     From 2001 to now, the Department of Information Technology and the Department have always been recognized by the School as an Excellent Labor Collective and Advanced Labor In particular, in recognition of the Department's contributions to teaching and management, the development of the Information Technology Practice Room, in the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school years , the Department was recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training as an Excellent Labor Collective at the Ministry level. There are 02 teachers who were awarded certificates of merit by the Minister of Education and Training.

Some of the department's works have contributed to the development of the School and Faculty:

     Participate in managing and developing the credit management software system, ensuring hardware, software, and computer network techniques for the training system of the Training Department and all faculties training full-time and part-time students in the school. The system operates effectively, meeting many training requirements in the school. 

     From 2004 to 2016, participated in designing, ensuring technical, developing the school-wide computer network system and was in charge of the Information Resources Management Board. In addition, the Department has staff participating in the School's Admissions work for many years. Developed an effective software system to process admission scores, ensuring accurate results.

     Every year, the Department and the Examination Department participate in the recruitment of civil servants, including the stages of creating exam questions, developing answers, ensuring technical support for computers and networks in computer rooms, and grading exams, with good results.

     In addition to ensuring the good operation of computer rooms serving training, the Department and the Computer Science Department have implemented and deployed well the techniques to ensure computers for the National Mechanics Olympic Competition (2013) at the Computer Science Department, the National Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Competition organized by the Central Youth Union at the My Dinh National Convention Center (2017) and many other competitions of the School.

     In the general development trend of the Faculty of Information Technology, the Department contributes expertise to the construction and teaching of the newly established Computer Science major. In particular, the Department's teaching staff plays a key role in the proposal to open a new training major, Multimedia Technology, enrolling in 2024 with 2 classes, both with benchmark scores among the highest in the whole school.

     Regarding teaching, over the years, the Department has been in charge of many specialized subjects and general subjects. The Department has the potential to develop expertise in the research areas of hardware development computer system control , embedded systems as well as in-depth development of digital signal processing , communications and fields in multimedia technology.
