How can I study to get hired before graduating?

SVVN - Nguyen Thanh Luat (born in 1997) recently completed his university program at the University of Construction, Faculty of Information Technology. He was recruited by SAMSUNG Vietnam even before graduating from university.

I was born and raised in a small house on the outskirts of Hanoi. My parents were farmers, spending their lives working in the fields and cultivating crops. I grew up amidst their hardships and struggles, so from a young age I told myself I had to study hard to repay their efforts. That's why, throughout my middle and high school years, I consistently achieved the title of outstanding student.

2015 was an extremely important milestone in my life, because it was the year I entered university. At that time, I was fortunate to have two older sisters who were studying in Hanoi. They were like "mentors," helping me choose a major with a promising future that suited my interests and abilities. I passed the entrance exam to the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Civil Engineering.

I once read somewhere a quote about the word "youth" that went something like this: "Each person's youth is like a summer breeze; even though it's boisterous, refreshing a vast expanse of sky, revitalizing the barrenness after days of heat and dryness, it only lasts for a short time, it can't last forever. Some people liken 'youth' to a sudden rain shower; even if you catch a cold from getting wet, everyone wants to immerse themselves in that rain again." I really appreciate this quote and I told myself not to let my youth pass by meaninglessly.

From my first year of university, I wanted to find a part-time job, both to earn some extra income and to hone my skills, preparing myself for the years to come. So I decided to tutor a 10th-grade student in Math. By my third year, I had accumulated a considerable amount of specialized knowledge, so I decided to join a group of experienced IT engineers. Thanks to their dedicated guidance, I learned a great deal and gained valuable experience, preparing me for a solid future as an IT engineer.

Even with part-time work, I always prioritized my studies, never neglecting them for a moment because I understood that securing my university degree would open wide doors to my future. As a result, I won the university's excellent scholarship for five consecutive semesters. While working part-time and completing my courses, despite being busy, I actively participated in student union activities and joined the SNC networking and media club. These were all practical and beneficial activities that helped me develop soft skills, network, and learn from my peers and seniors. Personally, I believe that any activity, however small, provides valuable experience.

In my final year of university, I was fortunate enough to be among the top 10 outstanding students at the University of Civil Engineering, along with a Do Quoc Sam scholarship. My parents and family were all proud of me because, after tireless efforts, I had reaped some rewards, however small, but as my father said, "something to be very proud of."

Four years of training at the University of Civil Engineering have given me unforgettable experiences and memories. I can confidently say that, even now, I am still proud of my university, proud to have the Civil Engineering blood flowing in my veins, and I still feel that my decision four years ago was absolutely correct.

When people think of the University of Civil Engineering, they often picture dry, academic students whose heads are filled only with blueprints and graphic designs... But that's a misconception. Civil engineering students are actually very dynamic, creative, and full of enthusiasm. Besides teaching specialized knowledge, the professors also equip us with the necessary skills for the profession through diverse lessons and extracurricular activities, aiming to cultivate flexible and sharp thinking, and the ability to adapt to the practical work environment.

Looking at the certificates and awards I've earned from my studies at school, some of my old high school friends are full of praise and admiration. But only I understand that achieving those accomplishments required a tremendous amount of effort. To achieve outstanding results, especially at a notoriously "difficult" school, I think the most important things are courage, diligence, hard work, and creativity.

From the first semester of my final year, I learned that Samsung Vietnam was training and recruiting young students like myself. I knew this was a "golden opportunity" to prove myself. I started studying, then reviewing and successfully passed three company challenges. Now I am a full-time employee at the SVMC software research and development center. Thanks to the systematic knowledge combined with practical experience I gained in school, I quickly adapted to the work of an IT engineer.

Many difficulties and challenges lie ahead, but I remain confident in myself, in what I have learned and honed during my time in school. That's how I've seized my youth; how about you?
