History of the subject:
The Department of Mathematics was established: 09-1966 (originally called the Department of Mathematics and Electronic Computers) right from the establishment of the school. The Department at that time consisted of 7 teachers separated from the Department of Mathematics of the University of Science and Technology: Tran Van Han, TNDH in 1956 and taught Mathematics at the University of Science and Technology since then, Nguyen The Hung, K1-University of Science and Technology, Nguyen Tuong, K1-University of Science and Technology, Ho Tho Cau, K4-University of Science and Technology, Nguyen Duc Thang, K4-University of Science and Technology, Nguyen Dang Khoi, Hanoi University of Science and Technology 1961-64, Tran Le Truong, Hanoi University of Science and Technology 1962-65. At the end of 1966, the following teachers were added: Vo Kim Anh, University of Science and Technology in the Soviet Union, Dang Dinh Bich, Hanoi University of Science and Technology 1961-65, Vu Viet Dao, Hanoi University of Science and Technology 1962-66. The teachers who worked at the Department from 1966 until their retirement were Nguyen Tuong, Ho Tho Cau, Nguyen Dang Khoi, Dang Dinh Bich, and Vu Viet Dao.
In early 1967, the Department received two engineers from the 7th course, Mr. Doan Tam Hoe, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuy, and two third-year students from the University of Civil Engineering, Mr. Dinh Van Nghiep, Mr. Le The Phong, who were directly trained by the Department as mathematics lecturers, and Ms. La Ngoc Lien from Hanoi National University. From 1967 to 1969, the Department added one more secretary (Nguyen Thi Thuy) and 14 teachers, among them five teachers who were studying at the end of their third year at the University of Civil Engineering and were selected to be sent for two years of training at the Faculty of Mathematics of Hanoi National University: Nguyen Thanh Dung, Hoang The En, Dang Ho, Nguyen Kim Lan, Nguyen Thuc Hai; teachers Le Ba Cau, Ly Hoang Tu, Dinh Khac Hung returned from the Soviet Union; Mr. Hoang Doanh, teacher of the College of Architecture, Ms. Quan Le Lan, teacher of Ly Nhan High School, teachers from Hanoi National University of Education Trinh Van Tho 1963-67, Vuong Khoai Cau 1964-68, Mr. Nguyen Nhu Ngoc, engineer of Hanoi University of Construction, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Nha, Hanoi National University of Education 1965-68. Many teachers stayed with the Department until their retirement such as Doan Tam Hoe, Dinh Van Nghiep, Le Ba Cau, Trinh Van Tho, Nguyen Nhu Ngoc, Quan Le Lan, Hoang The En, Dang Ho, Nguyen Kim Lan.
After 5 years since its establishment, by the 1971-1972 school year, the Department had a large team of 24 teachers (at that time, Mr. Doanh had transferred to the Ministry of Education, Mr. Thang and Ms. Lien transferred to the University of Architecture, Mr. Hung transferred to the Department of Information Technology, Ms. Truong transferred to the University of Commerce, Ms. Thuy transferred to the Department of Illustration), in the Department there was a PhD, Mr. Ly Hoang Tu (defended his thesis at Leningrad University in 1969) and two were doing research, Mr. Vo Kim Anh (1969) and Mr. Vu Viet Dao (1970).
In 1972, the war was fierce, at the same time the Department had 4 teachers enlisted in the army: Nguyen Dang Khoi, Doan Tam Hoe, Nguyen Thanh Dung, Nguyen Thuc Hai (later Mr. Khoi and Mr. Hoe returned to work at the Department). In 1972-73, three more teachers were sent abroad to do PhD studies (Ho Tho Cau, Dang Dinh Bich, Nguyen Tuong), Mr. Tuy transferred to the Department of Electricity and Coal, Mr. Vuong Cau fell ill, the Department had only 13 people left.
In 1973, the war in the North ended, to prepare for the task of training cadres after the war, in a short time (1973, 1974) the Department welcomed 11 new teachers: Le Huy Dam, Tran Thanh Son, Thai Binh Duong, Tran Canh, Trinh Danh Dang, Le Van Linh, Nguyen Van Hot, Mai Van Duoc, Nguyen Van Thinh, Nguyen Que Tuyet, Tran Dinh Trong. After 10 years of establishment, from 1976 until now, the number of people in the Department has been stable at around 20 people.
By 1977, the Department had 5 PhDs who had studied abroad, namely: Ly Hoang Tu, Vu Viet Dao, Ho Tho Cau, Dang Dinh Bich, Nguyen Tuong, and after a period of self-study, in 1978, Mr. Tran Van Han successfully defended his PhD thesis in the country.
The first book that the Department staff participated in writing was: Advanced Mathematics for Part-time University Students written by Mr. Nguyen The Hung and 2 others (Education Publishing House). In 1967, Mr. Han wrote Analytical Geometry (mimeographed) used in the school until the early 1970s. During the 1970s, Mr. Ly Hoang Tu (with another person) wrote Probability-Statistics Theory (University and College Publishing House), Mr. Tran Van Han translated the book Linear Algebra and Differential Equations by TSHu (University and College Publishing House).
In the 1980s, the Department wrote the book Special Math Chapters edited by Mr. Nguyen Tuong (authors: Nguyen Tuong, Ho Tho Cau, Nguyen Dang Khoi, Vu Viet Dao, Tran Dinh Trong). Mr. Dang Dinh Bich, Le Ba Cau, Ninh Quang Thang, ... published the Advanced Math Exercises (with instructions). The above documents were printed on selenium for use in schools. During the 1990s, under the editorship of Mr. Doan Tam Hoe, a series of Math books were printed (from internal printing to publishing at major publishing houses), providing full materials for students.
In 2005, a group of teachers in the Department under the editorship of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Cu, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Cu, Mr. Le Huy Dam, Tran Thanh Son, Tran Dinh Trong, Trinh Danh Dang, and Nguyen Thi Thuan compiled a set of textbooks according to the new program and is still in use today.
In 1991, facing the complicated world situation, the staff in the Department were getting older and it was difficult to go abroad to do research, so the Department proposed and was allowed by the Ministry to train masters in applied mathematics and the 1992-1995 applied mathematics master class trained 14 masters, including 7 people in the school, 7 people from the Mathematics Departments of the University of Architecture, Water Resources, Cryptography, and Friendship 80.
The members of the Department who have been awarded the title of Distinguished Teacher include Mr. Nguyen Tuong and Mr. Doan Tam Hoe; Associate Professor include Mr. Tran Van Han, Ly Hoang Tu, Nguyen Tuong, Doan Tam Hoe, and Vu Viet Dao; PhD holders include Ly Hoang Tu, Vu Viet Dao, Ho Tho Cau, Dang Dinh Bich, Nguyen Tuong, Tran Van Han, Nguyen Le Anh, Doan Tam Hoe, Nguyen Ngoc Cu, Trinh Danh Dang, Tran Canh, and Pham Duc Thoan; in addition to the 7 master's thesis defense teachers at the school, there are dozens of young cadres who graduated from other places and transferred here.
In January 2005, the school established the Department of Applied Mathematics, and 10 teachers transferred to the new Department.
During 45 years of development, the Department has contributed to training tens of thousands of engineers for the country. Many teachers have retired, but have always left a good impression on the Department in terms of teaching style, teaching enthusiasm and many other contributions.
